Hardscape Estimating Software That Measures the Job

Quote the patio from your desk the day the lead comes in. Hardscape estimating software should measure the area from satellite, carry every material on its own line, price the labor at your rate, and send a quote the homeowner can accept.

Eight tools are compared side by side below, with the prices they publish.

Built the way SurfaceMeasure builds a quote. The quantities are the paver installation calculator's; the labor rate is the middle of the published $5-$11 a square foot. Your rate goes in its place.

What to Look For in Hardscape Estimating Software

Six things separate the tools, and each one ends up on the quote. For the bidding method itself, see how to bid paver jobs.

  1. 1 of 6

Satellite measuring, in sections, with cutouts

A backyard job is a patio, a walk to the drive and a landing at the door, with a bed or a fire pit in the middle that you do not pave. Software that takes one outline makes you add and subtract by hand.

SurfaceMeasure takes up to 100 sections in one measurement with a running total, and cutouts come off it.

  2. 2 of 6

Every material on its own line

On a paver job the material is often close to half the price: pavers with waste, base stone by the ton, bedding sand, polymeric sand, edge restraint. One lump number hides where the money is and cannot be checked.

SurfaceMeasure carries up to 10 material lines, each a quantity times your unit cost. It does not work the quantities out; the paver installation calculator does, from the same area.

  3. 3 of 6

    Labor at your own rate

Published labor runs $5-$11 a square foot, excavation to sweep-up. Your crew, your access and your market decide where you sit in that band, and a preset rate is somebody else's.

SurfaceMeasure prices labor as your rate times the measured area, and you set the rate.

  4. 4 of 6

Linear feet for edging and walls

Edge restraint, sawcut borders, seat walls and steps are bought and priced by the foot. Software that measures area only leaves you to scale those off the image yourself.

SurfaceMeasure measures area, not perimeter. Enter the edge restraint as a line with its footage; QuoteIQ and SiteRecon both say they measure linear features.

  5. 5 of 6

A quote the homeowner can accept

The homeowner gets two or three quotes in the same week. A branded quote with every line on it and an accept button is easier to say yes to than a number in a text.

SurfaceMeasure sends a branded PDF, with an optional price range, or a link with your logo that the customer accepts online.

  6. 6 of 6

Whether it designs and runs the office

3D design, plant lists, crew scheduling and job costing are different jobs from measuring and quoting. Some companies want one system for all of it; others already have one.

SurfaceMeasure does not design, schedule, cost jobs or invoice; it saves every job. If you need the office in the same app, look at LMN, Aspire or QuoteIQ.

One Patio, Measured and Quoted

The 280 sq ft patio worked on the paver cost per square foot page: 6" × 9" pavers in running bond, 10% waste, a 5 in base and 50 ft of edge restraint.

  1. Search the address

The yard comes up from above. No drive to price it.

  2. Trace the patio

Choose Patio, tap around the area in sections, and cut out a bed or a fire pit.

  3. Set your labor rate

Here, $8 a square foot for about 28 crew hours of work.

  4. Add the material lines

5 lines from the paver calculator's takeoff, each a quantity times your unit cost.

  5. Send it

A branded PDF, with the range shown if you want it, or a link the homeowner accepts.

The quote above works out inside the published $10-$20 a square foot for concrete pavers. To work the quantities for your own job, use the paver installation cost calculator.

Hardscape Software Questions

Several can. SurfaceMeasure traces the patio, walk or driveway by address in up to 100 sections and takes cutouts off for beds, fire pits or a pool. QuoteIQ's MapMeasure Pro measures square and linear feet from aerial imagery, from its Beginner tier. SiteRecon says it measures hardscape, planting bed, grading and paver zones with AI. Aspire's PropertyIntel outlines surfaces on aerial imagery. Measure an existing surface this way; a new patio on lawn needs the layout the customer wants, which you can still trace on the yard.

Some build it into the estimate and most let you enter it. In SurfaceMeasure you add each material as a line with a quantity and a unit cost, up to 10 of them. The quantities come from the paver installation calculator: pavers with waste (822 of them on the patio here), crushed stone by the ton for the base, bedding sand, polymeric sand by the bag and edge restraint.

SurfaceMeasure is $29.99/mo or $299/yr, with a 7-day free trial, card required. QuoteIQ starts at $29.99/mo, with MapMeasure Pro from $99.99/mo. SiteRecon starts at $39/mo. LMN starts at $297/mo after an onboarding fee. SynkedUP starts at $199/mo and Projul at $249/mo on monthly billing; Builder Prime charges a $300/mo platform fee plus $60 per office user. Aspire and PropertyIntel do not publish prices.
