How It Works

Search The Address. Send The Quote.

Everything in between is three steps on one screen, and none of them is a site visit.

The Workflow

Three Steps, Start To Quote

The same three steps every job runs through, whether it is a 900 square foot driveway or a supermarket lot.

  1. 01

    Pick The Surface

Search any address in the country. The satellite imagery is already there — nothing to upload, no drone to fly, no waiting on a flyover.

Then say what you are looking at. Driveway, patio, sidewalk, deck, parking lot, pool deck. The surface type follows the job all the way through: onto the quote, into the saved record, and into what the customer reads.

    • No upload, no drone

  2. 02

    Trace It

Tap once at each corner, or hold and drag one loop around the edge. Both gestures make the same shape — pick whichever your hands prefer and the tool remembers it.

Close the shape and the square footage is there — to scale, on the actual image of the actual property. Drag any corner afterwards and the number follows. Undo takes back the last point. Nothing here is an estimate you are asked to trust: it is computed from the outline in front of you.

    • To-scale area on close
    • Drag a corner to adjust

    Two Shapes, One Number

Pool decks are the one surface that needs a second outline. Trace the deck, then trace the pool, and SurfaceMeasure takes one out of the other. What you quote is the concrete you are actually standing on.

    Send The Quote

Enter your rate per square foot and the job is priced. Add materials as line items when they matter, and a scope of work if the customer wants one.

Then send it: a PDF carrying your company name, logo and an aerial of the property, a link for anyone on a phone, or a plain image for a text message. However it goes out, the job is saved to your account with the address and the numbers.

The Obvious Question

How Can It Be Right If Nobody Went There?

Because you are not judging a photograph by eye. The imagery is scaled to the ground, so the outline you trace carries real dimensions, and the square footage is calculated from that outline the same way it would be calculated from a site sketch.

On flat outdoor surfaces that puts a traced measurement within a few percent of a tape — and makes it more repeatable than one, because the shape is saved. Nobody is walking a wheel around a curve at seven in the morning and writing the answer on their hand.

Strongest on
Flat, open, horizontal surfaces. Concrete, asphalt, pavers, decking, gravel — anything you can see the whole of from above.
Worth a second look
Heavy tree cover over the edge of a surface, and anything built or poured since the imagery was captured.
Not what it does
Vertical faces and pitched roofs. You are measuring the footprint on the ground, not the slope above it.

The imagery carries the scale. The outline carries the shape. The square footage is what falls out of the two — not a guess laid on top of them.

What You Can Measure

Six Surfaces, Whatever Your Trade Calls Them

Five of the six are one shape and one number. Pool deck is the exception, and it is the only one.

  • Driveway

Straight, curved, or flared at the kerb

  • Patio

    Slab, paver, or stamped concrete

  • Sidewalk

    Runs, paths, and approaches

  • Deck

Any flat deck you can see from above

  • Parking Lot

Commercial lots, notched around the building

  • Pool Deck

The pool comes out of the total

  • Paving Contractors
  • Sealcoating Pros
  • Concrete Contractors
  • Lawn Care Pros

If you price work by the square foot and the surface is flat, it is on the list whether or not your trade is.

What It Replaces

The Drive Was Always The Expensive Part

Not the measuring. Measuring takes ten minutes. It is the hour on either side of it — and the fact that by the time you get back to the office and write it up, somebody else has already sent a number.

Straight Answers

What Contractors Ask First

Do I need to visit the property to measure it?

No. SurfaceMeasure loads high-resolution satellite imagery for any address in the United States. You search the address, the map moves to the property, and you trace the surface from wherever you are — the truck, the office, or the kitchen table while the customer is still on the phone.

How accurate is a measurement taken from satellite imagery?

On flat outdoor surfaces — concrete, asphalt, pavers, decking — a traced measurement typically lands within a few percent of a tape. The imagery is scaled to the ground, so the outline you draw carries real dimensions and the area is calculated from that outline rather than estimated by eye. It is also more repeatable than hand measuring: the shape is recorded, so you can reopen it and check it later.

Which surfaces can I measure?

Six surface types ship today: driveway, patio, sidewalk, deck, parking lot and pool deck. Five of them are one traced shape and one number. Pool deck is the exception — you trace the deck and then the pool, and SurfaceMeasure subtracts one from the other and reports the net area, which is the only figure worth quoting.

What if the satellite image is out of date?

Coverage is recent for most of the country, but capture dates vary, and a driveway poured last month may not be in the picture yet. When the imagery and the property disagree, trace the footprint you can see and note the difference on the quote, or measure that job on site as you always have. The imagery date is a limit of the picture, not something the tool hides from you.

Does it work on a phone at a job site?

That is what it is built for. Searching, choosing the surface, tracing, pricing and sending the quote all run in a phone browser with nothing to install. You can tap once at each corner, or hold and drag one loop around the surface — whichever suits your hands. Close the shape and the square footage is there.

What does the customer actually receive?

A PDF quote carrying your company name and logo, the property address, an aerial of the property, the measured area, your pricing and any scope or notes you added. You can send a link instead if they are on a phone, or export a plain image for a text message. On Pro the quote also picks up your brand colour.

Can I go back to a measurement later?

Yes. A finished measurement saves to your account with the address, the surface type and the numbers. Reopen a past job, re-export the PDF, or look up a property's square footage months later without measuring it again.
