Four Habits That Get You Paid Faster
Invoice before you leave the property
Do the final walk-around with the customer, then send the invoice from your phone while the clean concrete is right in front of them. Same-day invoices get paid days faster than next-morning ones.
Offer at least one instant payment method
Zelle, Venmo, or a card link means the customer can pay in the driveway. Every day between 'job done' and 'payment possible' is a day you're the one extending credit.
Mirror the estimate line-for-line
The invoice should look like the estimate the customer already said yes to — same surfaces, same square footage, same numbers. Surprises on invoices are what trigger payment delays and disputes.
Put the review ask on the invoice
The moment they pay is peak satisfaction. One line with your Google review link turns your best customers into your marketing — see the follow-up templates for the full review-request script.
Invoice Questions
Timing, terms, and late fees — the practical answers.
The same day the job is completed — ideally before you leave the driveway. Payment speed is strongly tied to how fresh the work is in the customer's mind. A same-day invoice paired with a walk-around of the finished surfaces gets paid fastest, and often on the spot.
For residential work, 'due on receipt' is standard — the job is done and inspected, so there's no reason to extend credit. For commercial accounts, Net 15 or Net 30 is common because invoices route through accounts payable. Whatever you choose, state it explicitly.
Stating a modest late fee (for example, 1.5% per month after 14 days) meaningfully reduces late payments — usually without ever being charged. It signals the due date is real. Check your state's rules on maximum allowable late fees before setting one.
An estimate is sent before the job and proposes a price. An invoice is sent after the job and requests payment. The line items should match — when the invoice mirrors the estimate the customer approved, payment friction drops to near zero.
